Writer’s Statement

As a mixed-Asian woman, I’ve always toed an awkward, often frustrating line between definitions that other people have crafted for me. It’s been unavoidable for me to explore this line throughout my entire life. From experimenting with various labels to studying race more in-depth in college, I’ve made it a mission of mine to break down these barriers of understanding and try to create a dialogue—both for my sake, and for others’—that’s more productive and informed.

That said, I do enjoy writing about “fluffier” things, either in tandem with these headier pursuits or on their own. I love video games, I love music, I love art and culture in general…we’re lucky to occupy a fascinating world, full of fascinating people and their creations.

But Is She Qualified, Though?

I’d like to think so!

I received my Bachelor’s in History at the University of California Santa Cruz in 2020. I found the History department to be absolutely thrilling and engaging to the umpteenth degree, replete with phenomenal professors and a variety of fascinating courses. My writing, editing, and research skills were honed in ways that I still employ today, thanks to the brilliant minds I was privileged to work with during my time there.

Aside from academics, I was also involved with our campus radio station, KZSC 88.1 FM, where I first began to dabble in journalistic avenues. My prior experiences as a songwriter coupled nicely with the production experience I gained as a DJ, culminating in a senior internship with our campus library as a podcast producer. The podcast was titled Stories From the Epicenter, and you can listen to the episodes I co-produced and edited wherever you get your podcasts.

Following the podcast, I found steady work as a freelance writer, which eventually turned into full-time writing. I’ve truly been blessed in this regard, not just because my skills as a writer and researcher have only continued to grow, but because I’ve been able to connect with some of the most talented, intelligent, and inspiring people I’ve ever met—coworkers and creators alike!

Now, I am proud to say that I have an established byline as a thorough, learned, and engaging writer, with editing and copy experience to boot. I hope you find this to be the case, too. You can find my writings on various corners of the internet, as well as my Medium page, which I plan on periodically updating with pieces I wouldn’t otherwise seek outside publication for.
